PRESENTATION

The Lisbon Marathon, originally run in December is now part of the Rock ‘n’ Roll series and now takes place in October. On October the 16th, Lisbon will host its 31th marathon. Lisbon, where some districts were reconstructed after the earthquake which devasted it in 1755, attracts by its charm and its authenticity.The route will give you an overview of the city by crossing typical districts as the heart of the reconstructed city, the Baixa Pombalina. Then, the route will take you for a big loop until Campo Grande to come down again to lead you along the ocean.

Take advantage of your stay to walk in the old district as the Chiado (chic district of old Lisbon), let yourself be witched by some notes of Fado in the narrow streets intact of Alfama.
You can spend your evening at Bairro Alto, picturesque and trendy face of the city. You might as well let you charmed by the portuguese gastronomy by tasting one Pastel de Nata of Belém…

Day 1 : Flight from your airport of departure to Lisbon. Transfer to your hotel according to your choice (bus, taxi, private car, rental car, shuttle). End of the afternoon free, dinner and overnight.

 

Day 2 : Breakfast at the hotel. Visit of the city by beginning with the district of Bélem, where the “Discovery Caravelles” left from, with the Tower of Belém (seen from the outside) and the Monastery of the Hieronymites (church and cloister). Visit of National Museum of Carriages (collection of royal carriages from the 16th to the 19th century). Then, you will visit the city center and the buisiness center – Rossio and Place du Commerce, through the typical Alfama district with its narrow and winding streets. Lunch in a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit of one of the most intersting museums in Lisbon : The Museum of the Azulejo. In a country where azulejos had always an important role. Settled in the old Couvent de Madre Deus, we visit the “Cloitre Manuélin” and admire walls completely covered with azulejos of the 18th century. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

 

Day 3 : Halfboard at your hotel. Free day to relax. Overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 4 : Breakfast at the hotel. Departure of the running. Marathon. Return at the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 5 : Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from the hotel to Queluz. The pink curving castle rock of the 18th century. Beautiful portuguese antique pieces, tapestries, austrian dishes and chinese screens. The palace is surrounded by gardens with balustrades, statues and fountains, long paths and a small canal with malls covered with azulejos, according to the portuguese’s taste in the 18th century. Continue to Sintra. Here, we will visit the Royal Palace of the City which has two huge and conical fireplaces no doubt at the glory of the kitchens gargantuan.

This palace carries the mark of various styles which mixes : maresque, manuélin, renaissance. Lunch in a local restaurant. Continuation to Cabo da Roca : the road leads to an esplanade, beyond the big red lighthouse and by passes a monument overlooking the sea. Cap de Roca is the most western point of Continental Europe. Continuation to Cascais, by way of Guincho’s beaches. Cascais is located on curved bay which forms at the S.O a rocky cape with a citadel of the 17th century. The fishing port and the lively beach takes place at a very frequented place since the antiquity. Today, it is a stylish sea resort which enjoies of an excellent accomodation facilities we will feel lots of fun to cross. Return through Estoril, an other elegant seaside resort & well-known. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 6 : Breakfast at the hotel. Free time before your transfer to the airport. Flight to your departure airport.

Nh Campo Grande **** (0.8miles from the running’s start)

This hotel is located in the touristic area of the city, just 200m far from the first city’s shops and bars. A total of 84 rooms are split on 12 floors, with a bar, a pub and an air-conditioned restaurant “à la carte”. A center Spa (with supplement) proposes you sauna, fitness room and jacuzzi.

 

Sana Park Hotel **** (2.9miles from the running’s start)

This contemporary hotel of several floors with a white facade is situated near the place of Marques de Pombal. There are 287 rooms decorated in a modern style with a view of the park Edouard VII, the castle St Georges or the Tagus. This hotel contains eleven meeting rooms, a fitness center with sauna and jacuzzi. In the evening, cocktails are served at the bar with the sound of a piano. The restaurant offers a “fusion” cooking in a modern and relaxed atmosphere

 

Radisson Blu Hotel **** (1.6miles from the running’s start)

Renovated in 2001, this hotel has a total of 221 rooms, including 205 double rooms and 16 suites scattered on 12 floors. There is a bar, a restaurant “à la carte”, a conference room and Internet access.
Cars can be parked on the parking. Room service, laundry service and medical assistance complete the services.

 

Sheraton Lisboa & Spa Hotel (2.8miles from the beginning of the race)

One of the highest buildings of Lisbon, this hotel is situated near the city center, in the buisiness district and only at 20 minutes from the airport. It owns 376 air-conditioned rooms in total. Some are at the last floors where they enjoy a magnificient view on the city. The hotel has two bars and two restaurants (one restaurant offers an unforgettable view of the city).
